  • Unix Team Leader - Manager of a small team, responsible for a complex computer network providing computing resources to several academic departments and research groups.
  • Services managed include email, web, database, file store and backup, numerous application software.
  • The School's network integrates a large variety of platforms including Unix (sparc and x86), Windows NT4 and MacOS.
  • 1990 - 1994: Computer Science Department, City University.
  • System programmer - duties included, maintaining, supporting and upgrading software. Designing and implementing various pieces of system software. Providing technical advice to staff and students.
  • 1989 - 1990: Self Employed
  • Freelance Computer consultant providing support and training for UNIX systems and in particular the Cubix range of computers.
  • 1986 - 1989: Equinox Computer Systems
  • Technical Support for Equinox computer systems, a leading supplier of UNIX micro computers based around the Motorola and Intel chip sets.
  • Duties included Pre/Post sales support for customers and dealers. Preparing exhibition software and hardware.
  • In house support of Service Engineers and Production. Evaluating new products and setting up production and customer fault tracking procedures.
  • Wrote and presented a "UNIX for Users" course and attended several UNIX workshops.
  • 1983 - 1986: Equinox Computer Systems
  • Technical Support for same company working on their TurboDOS multi-user S100 bus based computers,
  • Duties as above but included writing a system configuration program and a TurboDOS network driver,
  • Wrote and presented the "Advanced TurboDOS" course for our dealers.
  • 1980: ICI Paints Division, Slough.
  • Junior Chemist as part of the Experience in Industry scheme. Carried out a research project for their R & D Department involving complex analytical techniques and writing an internal report.
